Free speech platform says online publisher’s actions “unacceptable authoritarianism”

Las Vegas, Nevada – Parler CEO John Matze condemns Facebook for censoring video from Fox News primetime host Tucker Carlson.

On his program Tuesday night, Mr. Carlson interviewed Dr. Li-Meng Yan, a virologist who worked with the WHO at the University of Hong Kong. Yan claims that the virus that causes Covid-19 was created in a lab and intentionally released by the Chinese government.

Facebook flagged Fox’s video of the interview on Wednesday, and placed it behind a screen, saying that the content repeated information about Covid-19 “that multiple independent fact checkers say is false.”

Dr. Yan has both supporters, who view her as a whistleblower, and detractors who call her a charlatan. As Carlson noted on Wednesday’s show, while Yan’s claim cannot be conclusively proven, she has provided some evidence to support it. The Intelligence Community has shown skepticism about her claim, but has not conclusively ruled it out.

“Dr. Li-Meng Yan has made explosive charges, and Tucker Carlson has done what journalists are supposed to do: he gave her a platform to present her case to the Public,” said Parler CEO John Matze, “It is deeply disturbing that Facebook is, with increasing regularity, telling us what we may read, hear, write, say and think.

“Controversial issues like this need to be debated broadly and openly in the sunlight—not swept under the rug by agenda-driven ‘fact-checkers’. People have the right, and it is right for them, ethically, to hear all sides, all perspectives and decide for themselves as individuals. I invite critical thinkers everywhere to #Erasebook, #Twexit and join the movement at Parler.”

Parler was founded in 2018 and has over 3.8 million users. The platform is committed to free speech, does not mine or sell user data and does not censor content based on politics or ideology. Parler continues to stand with the People and against Technoauthoritarianism.
